Rachunki to cztery zbiory przemyśleń ogłaszane co roku w latach 1866–1869 przez Józefa Ignacego Kraszewskiego pod pseudonimem B. Bolesławita. Były one ambitnie pomyślaną próbą zmierzenia się z goryczą przegranej powstania 1863–1864, zdefiniowania na nowo składników polskości i drogi rozwoju narodu w kontekście modernizacyjnych wyzwań XIX wieku. W tomie przedstawiono poprzedzone wstępami wyimki z Rachunków poświęcone Polsce i polskości, literaturze, teatrowi, wystawom krajowym i europejskim, szkolnictwu wyższemu, Galicji, Litwie, Sybirowi. A Selection from 1866–1869 'Rachunki' ['Reckonings'] were four volumes of reflexions issued yearly between 1866 and 1869 by Józef Ignacy Kraszewski under the penname B. Bolesławita. They were an ambitious attempt at tackling the bitterness following the failed insurrection of 1863–1864, redefining what constituted Polishness and what path forward the nation should take vis-a-vis the challenges of 19th century modernisation. The present volume offers selected excerpts from 'Rachunki' grouped into prefaced thematic sections, devoted to: Poland and Polishness, literature, theatre, national and European fairs, higher education, Galicia, Lithuania, and Siberia.
